The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned
A few years ago, God really challenged me to start figuring out ways to encourage and challenge this generation of young working adults. People coming out of university from their 20’s-40’s had a hard time finding churches to be a part of. During university, some left their faith as something from their youth. Others carried on in the faith, but once they started working began finding it difficult to find their place in church. And others still struggled on in their churches, not knowing how to grow their relationship with God to a new level.
And as I prayed about these things, I started to ask – why couldn’t this generation be the one to shine in the darkness? Why should we settle for mediocrity? Shouldn’t we be the ones engaging and wrestling with what it means for Christ to be in this nation, in this city, in our lives? Facebook, Google, Apple – these were all companies started by people in their 20’s. What about us? Can’t we be a generation hungry for God, hungry to proclaim him, hungry to declare what Good News is all about?
I9:2 is our first venture into young working adults. It’s a conference for you. It’s getting doctors, lawyers, designers, teachers, engineers, accountants, programmers, council workers, architects – anyone – to start rising up to their calling. To begin dreaming dreams for Christ. Visioning his visions. Hoping his hopes. Living his life.
So why a conference? It’s a chance for us to network with one another and engage with each other’s lives. It’s an opportunity to vent about working life and be inspired about real life. It’s a chance to get prayed for, to learn, to grow, to recover.
I9:2 is open to any young working adult (or unemployed adult). It’s not just for Birmingham, and it’s not just for Chinese people.
