This post is a challenge to followers of Christ. Those of us who call ourselves Christians. Disciples of Jesus. The bride of Christ. His church.
It seems very much that we have settled. We have settled for the life here. We have made roots in the land. We have decided to call this world our home. What defines you? What marks you as unique? What sets you apart from the rest of this world?
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:13-16″
You see, we have become invisible. We are a silent voice to the world around us. We have lost our identity, our vision, our purpose. In fact, some of us have begun to believe that the promise of this world is better than the promises of God.
They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator. Romans 1:25
God exchanged the holy Christ as payment for our sins. And we have exchanged him for the “riches” of this world.
Where is our voice? Where is our passion? Where are the shouts of praise and the stories of his righteousness? We come to church to be served, to be entertained, to socialise. But we have lost our voice. We have forgotten who is our king. We have forgotten where we stand. We have forgotten our Lord.
Family, don’t you remember how he raised you out of darkness? Have you forgotten the love you first experienced? Don’t you remember the tears of joy as he wiped the years of guilt away? Can you no longer remember the singing and celebration as your friends heard the good news?
We work in vain. We struggle in vain. And yet we do not cry out to the Lord. We ask him to raise us out of our situations, and yet he seems silent. For it is not He who has forgotten us. We have forgotten Him! We have forgotten to what purpose we live.
You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth?
Galatians 5:7
Instead, equip yourself with the full armour of God. Sing a new song. Rejoice for our Lord is victorious. Intercede for one another. Turn to the Lord. Awake O sleeper and rise from the dead. For the Lord heralds a new day. And we, like watchman, look eagerly to the morning.
Sing to the LORD a new song,
for he has done marvelous things;
his right hand and his holy arm
have worked salvation for him.
The LORD has made his salvation known
and revealed his righteousness to the nations.
He has remembered his love
and his faithfulness to Israel;
all the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God.
Psalm 98:1-3
